Basic training is being delayed – don’t understand why?
My child enlisted in the Guard more than six months ago, but still has not gone to basic training. We’re told that his subsequent specialized training is not being regularly offered, and that basic training is thusly delayed so that one immediately follows the other.
This doesn’t seem to make sense. How would any business or public service entity recruit new talent – you are offered and accept a job, but can’t be told your starting date? Secondly, if the subsequent specialized training has a certain number of slots to fill, how do you reach such capacity when you don’t know if all of the candidates will successfully complete basic training?
My child did not elect to delay basic training, has no full time employment and can no longer afford payments of rent and pre-existing student loans. Is he thus faced with the armed forces not being able to keep its side of the enlistment?
He needs to go talk to his recruiter ASAP. They should have given him a ship date while at MEPS. If that date changed, they would have notified him. Right now, he needs to go back to MEPS with his recruiter to find another date. It’s not normal to be without a ship date for that long of a time.
